How a laser is used
Laser frenectomy uses laser energy to release or remove restrictive frenulum tissue. LightScalpel is a carbon dioxide (CO₂) laser. NJ Tongue Tie Care uses the same procedural approach for tongue and lip ties when individually appropriate.
The choice of tool does not establish a need for treatment. Laser safety, clinician training, pain management and a clear plan are important.
Questions about evidence
The American Academy of Pediatrics reports no evidence supporting laser over other methods for infant frenotomy. This does not mean all techniques are identical in every situation; ask how evidence applies to your child.
Ask why the proposed method is recommended, what alternatives exist and what complications and aftercare are relevant. Do not assume a laser guarantees a pain-free procedure, faster healing or better feeding.
